I've been thinking...yes, most of you would say that this is a most dangerous act and tell me to cease immediatley but, no. I like my thoughts. Well, some of them anyway and if I stop thinking those thoughts will no longer be with me and I would be hollow.

How's that for a piece of philosiphy, eh? Not all that good, I know but it'll do.

Now, what I was thinking about is exactly how "valuable" with little piece of cyberspace is. No, I am NOT thinking about putting in advertising I'm just considering how viable it is for me to keep coming back here every few months or so to tell you just that little bit more about my life. How many people actually read this? I would have to say at least one person will read this post and perhaps be intrigued enough to read on, hopfully commenting along the way but I would doubt there be many more than that. Also, why do I keep these other people in on this blog? What purpose have they served so far? True, vincents_child has done one or two posts but Milliway's? Nothing. Overall I have been the sole contributor to our little journal-of-sorts and part of me thinks it is time to claim it back.

Now, down to business. Due to the reasonable increase of funds I have gained due to my job...have I told you about my job? No, I don't think I have. Basically I am a McSlave. Okay? Good. Due to my job I have been getting money as per custom and following through with that custom exchanging the money earned for goods. one of these good is my brand new Logitech G15 keyboard. I am quite happy with this investment apart from not being able to work out how to get ammo displays and the like working. Any help on the matter from you, the reader, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hmmm...what else to say? I have found myslef addicted to Need for Speed Most Wanted and have just today completed it for the 4th time. I think it's done it's run and maybe I'll give it a rest...maybe. I also completed Quake 4 this week as it was the first week of my school holidays. Ah yes holidays. The few and far between times of year wherein students are able to do anything their age restricts them to without the constraint of school. Alas I find myself quite bored already. I have a limited selection of games all of them already used...must go shopping or to a LAN.

Coming up soon this month is Christmas. I will be spending this "merry" time of year with my family and "practically-family" (that group of close friends of your parents) . After Christmas comes New Years and I will be travelling south for my grandparents Golden Wedding Aniversary. Then I am free once again, depending on how much work wants my time.

So, until I have some more interesting or even slightly interesting news for you, faithful reader, adieu.

The Spirit Engine

First off: I <3 Mark Pay. If I ever saw him I would hug him. Seriously. This is how much I love this piece of freeware goodness.

The Spirit Engine is set in a fictional world where you take control of 3 people teleported at rather untimely moments from their respective lives to Hailey's Glen (a small, backwards island) where they are met with a mute fairy-looking creature. Upon arrival they quickly discover the normally placid animals have gone crazy and are attacking the coloners. All this behaviour is attributed to the appearance of a ravenous beast - The Grundlekrunck (or some such name). Walking into the first town the heros find that Rick Brutal, world famous slayer of legendary creatures, is on the job and so all bets are on him killing the Grundlkrunck.

And that's how it begins. The start of the first of 5 chapters in this epic journey from the country, through deserts, beaches, forests, catacombs, defiled churches, arcane libraries and a skyscraper to discover the answer to this question: "What is the Spirit Engine?"

What makes this even cooler is that Mark Pay is now making The Spirit Engine 2 which promises to be twice as big and complex as the original. The downside is that it won't be freeware and the price is looking at being around US$10. Not that I'll care, I'm going to get it anyway.

I'm sick. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't like me. I feel like I'm risking death to actually write this.

Anyhoo, not much has been happening in my little corner of the universe. My sister turned 18 yesterday and I got my hands on a new (old) computer. I've also tidied up the links, removing the superfluous ones.

Well, it may have been a while since my last entry, but I have good reason...honest! One of my friends got married, I went to a LAN, I went back to school and my computer died again. I found the cause of the problem this time!

Since I'm already on that topic, I'll talk about it first. Some of you may know that my computer is really dodgy. Can't seem to get the thing to work for much longer than a year without it crahing fatally. But, I've fixed the problem and found it quite amusingly. I was getting quite annoyed at it after the most recent crash so decided to start pulling out random parts to see what would work. I started with hard drives and then moved on to RAM. After pulling out my larger stick it actualy worked, so just to test it, I put the stick back in and turned it on again and to no surprise it didn't work. I proceeded to turn off the computer and then burn myself on a freshly super-heated stick of RAM. Fun. So now my RAM has been thirded but my system is much more stable (rather have the speed personally) and I have learned another very important lesson: don't tough IDE cables while the computer is on especially when downloading the most recent software updates. It can cause problems when your hard drive gets suddenly disconnected.

Now, what first? LAN or wedding? I'll go LAN because it's reasonably short. Basically it was over 24 hours long wherein we played UT 2k4 and NFS MW (both of which I pwned in, only lost one game of each). My racing skills are way better than I, or anyone else for that matter, expected when I beat a fully-done-up Vauxhall Munaro with an Audi Quattro TT with level 1 parts. Twice. UT was much more fun especially in the CTF-Joust map which is supposed to be played by 2 people with a relativley small capture limit. We played something like 6 a side and a capture limit of 8. It was total carnage in which I pwned by over 100 kills.

Now, the wedding. Nothing much to say other than I did some of the camera work. Here are some photos.

Wow, this thing has stayed with me through two moves, to entirely different regions of th country, a computer and multiple formats and it's still here! I'd like to thank regular readers, if they exist and if I had to ask for one thing in the next year, it would be MORE COMMENTS!!!

That one is me playing through the first few levels of Doom II really fast using GZDoom. i have to use the mod because Fraps needs an OpenGL renderer and CLassic Doom uses software.

Next off: the announcement. My hard drive died, so no more movies untill I get it replaced.

This is the first movie I made. Crap quality, using a crap program called ZD Soft Game Recorder. Don't bother using it, there's better stuff out there. Edited using Mindows Movie Maker. I would use Macromedia Dircetor, but I don't know how the thing works.

For those who've been living under rocks for the past week, Halo 3 has been announced and a trailer released!!! Most.Anticipated.Game.EVER!

Bungie aren't giving many clues as to the plot, but the graphics are WAY cooler (obviously using the new Xbox 360) including real-time reflections, which was one thing that was kinda annoying with the first games. Like I said, the trailer doesn't show much except that there will be a hell of a lot of particle effects with dust and everything, Cortana looks better and...the Cheif, now correct me if I'm wrong, but is he wearing white armour? Ah, well what does it matter? it's not like you're going to care while watching "How the world ends" according to the trailer. The trailer which can be found here: 73H TR41L3R. Trailer.

In other news...
I've discovered an innovative new talk show with an awesome twist: This Spartan Life. It just cannot be explained, you must watch the episodes. As well as bringing me back into Halo, this place has introduced me to 8-Bit music...and I love it!

Hmmm...can't think of anything else to tell you all now, except I finished Doom II (all 32 levels) in just under 22mins. I feel powerful.

Advent Children review

Ok in grand tradition of this great little blog i'm posting my review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. My dad got the import copy for me, thaks father. I finally watched it yesterday and OMG!!!!! If your a fan of sci fi or just movies in genral you're going to love it. If you're like me and a fan of the game you'll probably end up like me which is with tears in your eyes and drool trickling out of your mouth. The storyline...brilliant, the cgi...breathtaking, the fight scenes...undiscridable all in all a WOOT from me and a econmendation to get it when you can.

Freddy vs. Jason Review

Personally I thought it was boring. No scary bits, stupid characters (stupid as in unintelligent) and really annoying one-liners from both sides made this movie a flop for me.

DOOM Review

I saw Doom just the other day and I thought it was one of the best movies ever! One of the main characters, the only one that survived, was codenamed my game name - Reaper. So obviously that was a major point but everything was well done. The movie was high-strung but not what I would call scary. The reason behind the demons was feasable with an underlying idea that life on earth came from mars and that we all have souls.

Overall the music and camerawork was never over the top and the first-person squence worked very well although some of the angles that the gun was being held at were impossible. I tried them.

I got a lot of new music, right, but one two of the tracks were melded so I spent all of this morning trying to seperate them. I know, it was just track seperation. Any idiot could do that.

But I kept on doing stupid things like I had just finished cropping, played the song through, thought "Oh, good. I'm done." and promptly closed the program. Without saving *slaps forehead*. So I did it all again only to have my system chuck a hissy fit and auto-shutdown giving me some crap about "NT USER ADMIN" finding some error. Making me have to do it all over again.

Okay. The Yay!

I'm going to an all-day LAN party sponsered by Michaels Computers Magnetic Island tomorrow (That's why I've got all the new music).

Problem is that for some strange reason I can't hear out of my right ear so I'm going to have a serious handicap (I rely on sound a lot in games). My gaming style is influenced greatly by what music I listen to.

i.e. If I listen to thrash metal, I become like a beserker, rushing into rooms guns blazing and the like.

Then again, if I listen to stuff like Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit I go into a sort of stealth mode and kill people without them knowing I was even in that half of the level.

Who's heard of Madness?

It's an awesome flash series that I've found that's in the same style as Bunnykill but much more detailed in the mechanical actions of the guns and physics whereas Bunnykill is much more detailed in the different bodyparts when they get cut off or apart.

ANYWAY... my absolute favourite Madness film is no. 4 "Apotheosis", mostly for the music. Does anyone know where I can get the music for it and others?

Guess what I spent my Saturday doing?

Converting wmvs to wavs then mp3s.

Yes, you can do that if you have the right combination of programs.

I used a line-out recorder called MIDI2WAV to take them to wav, a wave editing program called Dexter to clip and fix them then MusicMatch Jukebox to convert them to mp3.

Okay so I was finished...NOT!. It turns out that I recorded them at 1411kbps and then converted them into mp3 at 128kbps. Needless to say there was a huge change in quality so I had to do all 55 minutes of movies again. Now they work but take up over 400MB of hard-disk space for just 12 songs.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Next time I'll ask for payment.

I just got my first Mp3 player!

I know, I know I'm very behind but hey, I'm fifteen with no job. Of course it would take be a while.
I got it for a bargain too! 128MB for about $40.00 off eBay. The cheapest you can get them around town is $60.00.

Sorry it's been so long since my last post but I'm not living downstairs anymore.

I've been doing a little while I was gone. I remixed popcorn, I wrote a completely new piece of music and I installed the complete Macromedia MX 2004 Professional suite.(Still have to work out how to use it.)
I've also been experimenting with photoshop and trying to find glitches and easter eggs in games and found a few. e.g. In Quake III...

I quite like writing music (as if you couldn't tell) and gaming (ditto).

So I decided to combine the two and do some remixes for the original Doom.

No, you can't get them but I can give you the site of another guy who's also done some remixes and I must say they are way better than mine! And he's taken them out of the original MIDI format and converted them to mp3 but you can still get them in MIDI for those with a slower connection at the sacrifice of quality obviously.

Maybe you people can help me!

I have had so many problems with C&C Renegade it is not funny.

1. I can't save. Ever since I finished that 'Deadly Reunion' mission I have been unable to save and my last save point was halfway through that mission. WTF?

2. I can't patch. My copy of Renegade won't patch no matter what I try. I've re-installed it (twice) and left the patching EXE running all night and nothing ever happens. WTF?

3. I can't host. Since I found out that I can't save, I've been practising tactics in Multiplayer Practice and that map was getting really boring so I tried 'hosting' a map (player limit=1) and as soon as it has finished loading the level, it kicks me out of the game. WTF?

4. I can't install. On my second system (a pitiful Duron 900MHz) I can't install the game. I run the setup program, it goes through that stupid movie thing and as soon as it starts the 'Updating Radar', 'Activating Bio-Monitor' crap the picture and sound go out of synch. When all that is over, it kicks me out of the setup. WTF?

WELCOME TO THE SMEG SIDE OF THE FORCE

A brand new blog about nothing in partcular.

As you may have already noticed, this blog has many different references to different things. i.e. Smeg Side of the Force.

Yes, there is a third side! It is a largley unknown side that harnesses the power of comedy and it actually exists in this world.

There are many masters of the smeg like Wil Anderson, Chris Barrie (Lord Smeg Head himself), Danny John Joules, Rove McMannus and countless others. Yes they may be comedians but that is their cover. In their spare time they really go around spreading joy and happiness to the world.* Not like those dicks on that freakin' Jedi Council who's does crap all every day.
